Exploring Malibu Beach and Lagoon
I took my bike to Malibu and did some exploring around the beach and town.

Malibu is up the coast northwest of L.A. sandwiched between the mountains and the sea. It's a narrow strip of a town along the Pacific Coast Highway and doesn't suffer from the runaway development like all the other coastal town in this area, making it feel more like Hawaii than California. I was testing out my new Canon S20 IS camera with 12 meg pixels and a 20X zoom, and they came out great.

Like most of the these costal towns, the Pier is the center of activity for the town. Though not as busy as some of the others, this one had plenty of fishermen on the sides, with pelican and terns diving for fish, and kayakers all around.

The Malibu Pier, a bee hive of activity, was buzzing with pelicans and terns diving for fish. This one is made of wood, most others are concrete.

The base of the pier is a restaurant.

As you can see, there's not much to this town.

I don't know if this is a house or a hotel but it looks expensive, on the hilltop above the pier.

The left half of this is the lagoon area.

A freshly caught Makerel on the pier.
There was also a shark tied to a rope under the pier.

This lady just made a crash landing and now every one is helping her get the kayak on shore.

People were paddling these boards all over the place. This woman just fell off then climbed back on, 100 yards off the end of the pier.
West of the pier is the Malibu Lagoon State Park and Beach. This wildlife area is buzzing with sea birds, like, pelicans, terns, comorants, egrets and seagulls, and features a boardwalk through the middle connecting the parking lot to the beach. It's a nice walk (about a mile) from the pier and didn't seem too busy.

This girl seems to be working up the nerve to dive in.

This creek connects the lagoon to the sea and cuts the beach in half, this girl was struggling in the fast current.

The beach is as good a place as any to read a book but that umbrella isn't doing her a bit of good.

Fishing boat and surfers a ways off of the beach. There were no waves at all that day.
