Colorado Travels 2001

Waterfall in Ouray
Before I moved to Portland, I lived in Colorado, and in 2001 I was visiting Ouray and Silverton with my brother. This region in western Colorado is one of the most spectacular areas in Colorado, with towering mountains, forest and waterfalls. For the outdoors type there's plenty to do there, like: hiking, biking, jeeping, splashing in hot springs, visiting historic towns and mining districts.

Day 1 - Ouray Area
This little town is surrounded by tall mountains and has two waterfalls and a big hot spring right in town.

Day 2 - Silverton Area
Another little town is surrounded by mountains, Silverton is a hub for jeep trips into the high country mining district. The Million Dollar Highway between Ouray and Silverton is one of the most spectacular drives in the country.

Day 3 - Old Mining Area
The high country above Silverton is laced with old jeep roads that visit hundreds of old mines. The spectacular scenery make this a great place for exploring if you have a four wheel drive.

Day 4 - Pagosa Springs Area
Surounded by thick forest, Pagosa Springs is hidden gem in southern Colorado. The town even has two great hot springs and a big river.

Day 5 - Sand Dune Area
On the way back home is the Great Sand Dunes. Grab your water bottle and see if you can make it to the 500 foot top.
