The northern reaches of the Pike National Forest is an area of small county parks and remote mountain trails. It covers the foothills from Monument to Denver, and Jefferson/Douglas county areas.
Between Colorado Springs and Denver is an assortment of trails climbing into the foothills of Rampart Range. Most are very difficult, all are very scenic.
North of Woodland Park is huge expanse of jeep roads and remote mountains, perfect for days of endless mountain biking.
Even farther north is are the remote mountains along Highway 285. This is easy access for the Denver crowd, but quite a ways from Colorado Springs.
