The Bottomless Pit Area of Pikes Peak

Near the top of the Pikes Peak Highway is a spectacular overlook called The Bottomless Pit - the cliff below drops 1500 feet nearly straight down from the side of the road. The Elk Park Trail offers a two mile hike from the Highway to the bottom of the Pit where you'll find some of prettiest scenery on all of Pikes Peak. This view is looking west toward the overlook, which is behind the rock outcrop in the upper left. Besides the towering cliffs and lush forest, this spot has old cabin and mine ruins and goes by several names : Bottomless Pit , Ghost Town Hollow , Cinncinnati Mine , Oil Creek Tunnel , Elk Park Trail and North Fork French Creek.
