This ride went up the west side of the island. After crossing over the bridge near Forest Park, we parked behind the little general store off to the left. From there it was six or seven miles up the coast to the wildlife refuge in the swampy area on the island's north end. We came back the same way, but a second road cuts through the interior.

Northwest of Portland is huge Sauvie Island. Even though the river is only a mile wide, the island is 4x15 miles! It's a scenic place loaded with farmland, trees, swampland and river scenery.
