The Garage of Eden

Planet Earth was destroyed an eon ago, jump starting a new round of evolution.   And now the little mice of the old world have become the spirited rulers of this new world.
The climb of the mice was mirrored by the fall of the humans, flushed down the evolutionary gutter to become 3-inch pests infesting the mouse houses.   But living quietly in the walls of the mouse house, tiny Jack and Jill frolic in their secret Garden of Eden on the roof of the garage.
Though only 19, Jack is the leader of his roof-top village.   It's a peaceful slice of paradise until mouse mom catches little Jill foraging in the kitchen and throws her in the cage with the kid's collection of pet humans.
And then it's a race against time as Jack rallies his clan to bust out their princess before the cage of thugs get their hands on her or the kid feeds her to the fish.   And when the kid's girl friend shows up, things really get crazy.

The Garage of Eden has about fifteen pictures. These below are a good sample, taken directly from the book.   All of these pictures were created with AI Image Generators, DreamStudio & Bing.

Though only 19 and the youngest of the adults, Jack is the leader of the Ash Clan.   Jack inherited Ash Village from his father just a year earlier, and like his dad no one questions his authority.   Inheriting his dad's exceptional intuition, Jack has kept the village running smoothly, hammering his village into his own vision of Eden.   He's not a warrior but is very athletic with unnaturally quick reflexes, and most other warriors will steer clear.   Like Odysseus of Greek mythology, he prefers to analyze a situation before acting but then acts with authority when the time is right.   A very calm deep thinker, he prefers to prevent problems before they start but can easily neutralize man or mouse when they do.

Nineteen year old Jill is an exceptionally athletic warrior princess.   Intrigued by Jack's peaceful lifestyle they married a year ago and she joined him at Ash Village.   Jill's father was a Pretorian Guard in Castor Village and brought her up as a warrior from a young age.   Her mother was a slave girl from east island, which gives Jill her distinctive Asian look.   To the locals at Castor Village she seems mildly exotic and even Jack was enchanted.   She has more of a temper than Jack that frequently gets her into trouble, though she can always take care of herself.   By the time she was 18 she'd become disgusted with the violent warrior lifestyle, just as Jack came into her life.   So at 19 she's retired from the warrior life to become a princess at Ash Village.   A princess who isn't afraid to bust heads when needed.

Jack and Jill ply the dark hidden passages in the walls of the house, sneaking their way to the kitchen in search of food.

Jack and Jill go for a swim in the nearby quarry, splashing their cares away after busting out of the cage.

Locked in Karl's cage and the walls are closing in on Jill.

Jill and Tony talk of exciting times before they were thrown in the cage.

Jill does battle against the piranha, but she's done this before and has a plan.

Jill holds her own in a battle against four drifters, but she won't last forever.

The Ash Clan has an assortment of characters who are all important in their own way.   Alex & Lucy are the senior couple in the village, a dozen years older then Jack & Jill.   They are from Castor, like Jill, and have known Jill her whole life.   Alex is the leader of the village anytime Jack is gone.   Luke & Molly are two newcomers to the village, both escaped from slavery a few months earlier.   After spending time as a construction slave, Luke eventually escaped and then spent three years living off the land.   During this same time, Molly had been locked up as a harem girl in Sumac village.   Molly was rescued by Jill a few months ago and Sumac is still looking for her.   Joe & Beth and Ben & Amy have been in the village for a year or two and are the primary workhorses of the clan, while Jack and Alex run the show.   Lilly is Jill's little sister, who joined Jill at Ash Village when their parents died.

As Heidi finds wayward pests in her kitchen she tosses them into Karl's terrarium.   And now, Karl's zoo of pet humans is chockfull.   This group is a mix of people from a wide swath of society.   From left to right in the picture:
* Angus is a freelance mercenary who pictures himself as the king of the cage.
* Casey is a drifting merchant, calm and level headed.
* Anna is a twelve year old slave escaped from the factory.
* Tony is a trash talking farmer, who becomes Anna's guardian angel in a cage full of thugs.
* Andy is Tony's brother, a quiet deep thinker.
* Brian is a simple drifter, whose brother Finn will be captured later.
* Devin is the drifter who caused Jill to get captured.

Franz and Heidi Basalt are the mouse family in the house where Jack has hidden his village.   Franz is the village brass-maker who uses minerals from the nearby quarry to make simple tools for the rest of the village.   Heidi is the business leader of their forge and runs her household with military precision.   Teenage Karl also works in the forge and collects tiny humans as pets in his cage.   They are a friendly and important family in the village with frequent visitors.

Derrik and Emily Flint are the blacksmith family from across town.   These two famlies coordinate their business plans to avoid competing directly with each other.   And then while working on a bottle of blackberry wine, Heidi and Emily hatched a plan to combine their businesses into an extended family by getting their two kids together.   But no one told Karl, and overwhelmed by Angie's spicy energy, chaos quickly ensued.   But the plan worked and the families are pulled closer together, but the parents will need to keep an eye on these two.

Karl and Angie spend the day playing with Karl's pet people, enjoying the barbecue, and looking over the forge.

Heidi and Emily's plan to get their two kids together is working a little too good.   As soon as the pesky parent are out of their hair, a simple visit turns into a wrestling match as Karl and Angie can't keep their hands off each other.

The mouse family live in the peaceful village of Glen Eden.   This is one of many mouse villages on the island that are in the early stages of civilization and still a bit primitive.   The main economy of the village is farming, construction, clothing, and tools.   The island is very peaceful with no warfare and the villages with very little crime.   Mouse villages are in the open terrain, while human villages are in the forest.   The nearest mouse village is Agate Creek, which interacts with Glen Eden quite a bit.   Agate people think the humans are forest fairies, while Glen people think they're forest rats.

Castor Village is the nearest village to Ash, a ten mile walk for Jack and Jill.   This is where Jill grew up and the Ash clan makes frequent trips for supplies.   There are many human villages on the island that are in the early stages of civilization.   The main economy for is farming, clothing, tools, weapons, warfare, and slavery.   These villages are more primitive and violent than the mice civilization, and are all ruled by warlords.   The warlords are in a near constant state of warfare, except for Castor who rules by economics rather than force.   All human villages are in the forest, and the mice are strictly forbidden by their priests from entering the forest.   This leaves the forest a free-for-all for the humans.
