Pikes Peak Trail Guide

Road Bike Vacation
If you're in town for a one week vacation with your road bike and don't know quite where to go, these roads will make a good starting point. These are some of the more interesting road rides in the area, and are even fun in a car if you're in a hurry.

Palmer Lake to Larkspur
This beautiful cruise goes through the foothills and pastures between Rampart Range and the high plains. Route 18 has the big views of buttes and open range, Route 105 is in hilly pastures with a mix of forest and mountains.

Air Force Academy
The high plains meets the foothills at the Air Force Academy, and any of the loops around the base make an enjoyable afternoon of biking. The base is open to the public and the roads are immaculate. With the great scenery, airplane displays and history, there's something for everyone on this ride.

Woodland to Rainbow Falls
The valley north of Woodland Park is one of the greenest in Colorado. The road alternates between tall trees and lush meadows, passing several campgrounds, a lake and creek. This is one of the most peaceful rides in the area and on the way back the view looks straight up-valley at Pikes Peak.

Goldfield Loop
The twenty mile loop that surrounds the Cripple Creek mining district is a beautiful ride through the western Pikes Peak plateau. The big pastures with moutains and forest nearby make a great backdrop for the hundred year old mining structures that litter the country side. It's a lot more interesting than it sounds.

Teller Co 1
The road from Florissant to Cripple Creek starts in the big green pastures of the Fossil Beds and then winds into the hilly country south of Dome Rock. Hills and giant rocks are everywhere, making this one of the most scenic rides anywhere.

Phantom Canyon Road
This 25 mile dirt road drops 4000 feet as it winds from Victor to Canyon City. This epic ride starts out in the big green pastures and forest of the Cripple Creek plateau and then winds into Phantom Canyon with its towering cliffs, riverside forest and old tunnels. The road is dirt but is rideable on a touring bike.
